Debapriya’s mellifluous voice singing a Baul number is an immersive experience after all the noise and dust of the day. An alumnus of Jadavpur University in Comparative Literature, Debapriya is a singer by intent and purpose and sings folk songs from the Eastern part of India. Debapriya started her musical training at the age of ten from classical exponents like Bela Raha, Meera Banerjee, Manju Bhattacharya, Rabindra Sangeet exponent Smt. Pratima Mukhopadhyay, Biswajit Dasgupta and later from the greatest folk singer of Bengal Shri Amar Paul…Though trained in North Indian Classical from Patiala Gharana and later Bishnupur gharana She always felt an inherent connect with the music of the subaltern, specially folk and country music. Her forte lies in presenting different Bengali folk songs specially bhatiali, bhawaiya, baul, and Lalonshah. She has honed her skills by attending several workshops held by eminent folk exponents like late Dinendra Chowdhury, Amar paul from Rajya Sangeet Academy and baul fakirs of Bolpur and Bangladesh specially those from Kushtia. She has been engaged in collecting songs by Lalon fakir. Her speciality lies in singing the philosophy of love and praise of god.She has also been doing playbacks in films like Bhallu Sardar, Aami achi shei je tomar etc and serials like Nati Binodini and many more. She is a regular guest on many television channels and has anchored many a shows. Currently, she traines students in vocal training, basic classical music and folk music in institutions and privately.
